Black Pearls

He stood in all his resplendent with a smile glowing on his face. The peacock feather fluttered in the gentle breeze as the soft music of the flute filled the room with an uncanny feeling. The lilting music was melodious and brought peace in every restless soul. After what seemed an eternity he stopped playing the instrument.

His face had the composure of  still water and serenity of the woods. He looked at me with compassion and said, ” My child I am very pleased with you and would want to reward you. Ask me five black things that you wish for and you shall get them”. I was pleasantly surprised and also amused. Surprised that why in the world was he happy with me, any ways lucky me? Amused that he wanted me to state five black things. Why should it be black specifically?

He replied, ” My child, have you seen me? Am I not dark and rightly called Shyam, Shyamasundara, Ghanashyama etc. Black is Beauty, Mystery, Heavenly and Luxury. Black symbolizes all of this and even more”. ” But then why five, my lord?” I queried. He cast a look that meant much but I couldn’t decipher. “Five is a sacred number. It represents the five elements that constitute this universe. Panch Amrut, Panch Gavya, Panch Pandav, the list is endless. Each has its own importance and holds great significance in Hinduism”. He then went on to give me the details of each of the aforementioned  items.

I thought over what had been told to me, it did make sense. Now I started to wonder what five items should I ask the Lord. Would my demands sound exorbitant? After some mulling these were the Panch Blacks that I asked for –

BLACK PEARL –

This ain’t Pele but the beautiful, round, radiant, smooth and flawless pearl found in the depths of the ocean. I would want a string of these pearls to wear them around my neck. One sitting on top of a silver crusted ring adorning my fingers would be a perfect set.

Despite having learnt the salsa dance I haven’t been to a salsa party as I never had the dress. It would be great to own a black salsa dress and groove to the music on the dance floor. Eye catchy ain’t it?

IPAD is one gadget that has been elusive till date. My various attempts have failed for unfathomable reasons. This sleek black beauty would definitely be a style statement for the owner.

Panache is what black is attributed to. Stepping out of a black Maybach chauffeur driver car would be going the flamboyant way. After all its not always one gets to lead a star studded life. The machine with its mean, sleek and stylish look would be a style statement to arrive.

He heard me calmly and then stated ” You wishes are my command. Now all that you have to do is write a post about these five things in Blogadda. The rest would be taken care of.” The birds chirped outside my room. I got up to the sun streaming through the window and wondered if it was a dream or reality, only time would tell?

Anyways here is my post on the Panch Moti that are Black like the night’s veil on a moonless night. At the same time it is rare and valuable like the black Koel.
