A precursor to The Stopover
One fine day I was in for a pleasant surprise when I received an email from Deepa Rachel Pinto outlining the unique concept of her book The Stopover and wanted my opinion on the same. She shared few pages from this colorful book based on which I had to pen down my thoughts. The book is planned to hit the stands mid October’12.
Deepa along with Ram Prakash have come up with a photo fiction book that is a fusion of fiction and fact. It’s a unique venture of relating the story line with its venue and the people through vibrant snaps. I have been introduced to the magical world of books though Tinkle during my childhood days. These comic books did the same but here in The Stopover you do not find the characters of the stories in the pictures. It rather cuts of the characters and gives a view of the place, culture and their residents where the personalities are based.
There are four stories in all of which I got access to couple of pages of the story The Tibetan Wheel of Wisdom. The tale traverses from Bangalore to Leh via Delhi through the eyes and heart of the character Varun. The unfolding of the events is beautifully done. The reader is introduced into the world of the protagonist through words and pictures. The pictures speak a lot as they give a broad eye as a traveler to a new place. Lot of effort seems to have been put to click the snaps and relate them to the tale. They are colorful and few of them are full of life. But at times the pictures tend to distract you from the flow of incidents. You might want to revisit the last lines you already have read before proceeding ahead with the story.
