Four years back when I visited Goa and stayed in one of the GTDC resorts the experience was not worthy to be mentioned. The resort was in the middle of the city and was more like a clubby hole. This time around when I visited Goa and stayed at Miramar Residency I found the resort a decent sanctuary that could be worked upon.

Post discussion with the Managing Director of Goa Tourism Mr. Nikhil Desai I understood GTDC has privatized the management of many of the resorts that are under GTDC on leave and license manner. This has helped to upgrade the condition of the existing properties and bringing in a positive makeover. One such example is Destination One  an initiative being implemented in Calangute Residency.

The beach has been cleaned and a huge garden setup next to Destination One which is adjacent to Calangute Residency and serves food and beverages to the residency guests and also for outsiders. Beautiful canopy setup for lounging in the evening and enjoying the sunset is Escapade for an alfresco multi-cuisine dining experience. Sea Lawns is a Wedding Destination for the perfect dream wedding. Besides the sea with a beautiful landscaped garden it is a dream come true for every bride to be. For the ones who are bored with the daily routine Destination One offers Panacea to exhilarate ones senses. The new dance floor being setup is with the latest acoustics technology and experts have been roped from abroad for the best experience.

I had the opportunity of being part of a Cooking Demo that was conducted by chef Sachin who specializes in Goan delicacies at Destination One. Pomfret stuffed with Green Masala, Chicken Cafreal Bites, Fish Kalderad, Ambat Ambati and Solkadi were some of the dishes that were cooked for us to learn and relish the Goan specialities.

Goan food has influences of the Konkani and the Portuguese style of cooking which was evident in the dishes prepared.

Relishing the dishes for lunch I wondered what more does Goa have to offer for the epicurean like me who is always ready to experiment and explore. Well there certainly was more for the Goa Cultural and Food Festival had loads to offer as I explored it for the next two evenings, more on the same in the  forthcoming post. As for now you can gorge on these absolute delicacies with a dash of coolers.
